Factories - Production Lines - Workshops
There are as many different kinds of production line workplaces as there are hazards to go with them – and it’s the same with machinery workshops - but as with all health and safety management it’s probably best to break the issues down into specific hazard categories and then compare your workplace against the guidance issued by the authorities.
As with all workplace health and safety, the employer has a duty to take whatever steps are necessary to control and manage the risks.

Some of the more significant issues you need to consider (in addition to the management issues on the main safety page) are listed to the right:
« Back to Health and Safety- Contact between forklift trucks and workers
- Ergonomics – repetitive strain/manual handling
- Machinery hazards
- Plant and Equipment maintenance
- COSHH
- Noise (including the works radio!)
- Slips and Trips – condition of floors
- Falls or falling objects
- Temperature
- Lighting
- Windows/Ventilation
- Cleanliness/changing rooms

When you are looking at these issues (in other words doing a risk assessment) you need to check what you are doing against the standards in the official guidance which you can download here:
- L5 COSHH – control of substances hazardous to health
- L22 Safe use of work equipment
- L23 Manual handling
